The Responsive Canine has taken dog training to a whole new level by harnessing the power of training games to teach not only basic obedience and manners, but also to develop and enhance your dog's confidence, adaptability, and self control. Our training style is both fun and functional. Games based obedience training profoundly increases motivation and focus in dogs, enhances relationships, and helps to create responsive and confident companions. We believe that when it comes to dog training, the key to success lies in understanding, communication, trust, respect, compassion and above all, relationship with your dog.
It is also important to remember that our canine companions are unique individuals. Their behaviours (seemingly "good" and "bad") are a response to their environment and always have a purpose. Utilising behaviour analysis and science based training techniques, The Responsive Canine will help you to interpret and understand your dog's behaviour better, develop effective and efficient intervention plans and create long lasting change. Our aim is to keep pets thriving in their own homes in our modern world.
The Responsive Canine utilises the latest science based animal training methods to improve focus and responsiveness in dogs in a variety of situations. We strive to use the most humane methods possible (LIMA principles) at all times. Ultimately, we believe in empowering our dogs to walk beside us by choice, rather than coercion.

The Responsive Canine is run by Naomi. Naomi has been part of the dog world for over 7 years and has instructed at local dog schools on the Gold Coast. She has also competed successfully in agility, rally-o, obedience and tricks. Naomi is particularly skilled at training others' dogs, including dogs with behavioural challenges. Naomi believes that success comes from training with a holistic approach, which is not just about teaching dogs the basic sit, drop and stay, but also about building an incredible relationship with our best friend and family member.
Naomi has a keen interest in both dog and human psychology. Behaviour change is an area that she is extremely passionate about and realises this is also an area of great need for many dog owners. Naomi uses her expertise in behaviour analysis and the principles of learning theory to help people better understand their dogs, their dog's behaviour, and most importantly, how to create change. Her passion is helping to improve human-canine communication and relationships.
Naomi obtained her Pro Dog Trainer certification in 2018. She is currently studying a Certificate IV in Animal Behaviour and Training through the prestigious Delta Institute. In addition, she continuously up-skills by participating in workshops and seminars conducted by renowned international dog trainers and behaviourists. She also takes online courses and follows world famous international animal trainers daily, to ensure she is using the most up-to-date, humane, force-free, evidence based training methods, and to remain current in her knowledge.
In addition, Naomi has a double bachelors degree, a Certificate IV in TESOL and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. She has many years experience teaching English as a Second Language and recognises the importance of having teaching as a vital skill to impart knowledge and training techniques to dog owners as well.
